See What’s Comin’ with the Sunlite Deluxe 11.5″ Bicycle Mirror

Want a great mirror for your upright “city bicycle”?

???????????????????????????????

With a little tweaking, the Sunlite Deluxe will fill the bill.  You can order through Amazon or directly from the retailer, Bicycle Source US

Through Amazon, the mirror was $11.99 with free shipping (Feb 2, 2013) whereas the retailer offers chrome or black at $17.99 (+ $6.95 shipping) (April 8, 2013).  ???????????????????????????????It was not available per my preference at local bicycle shops with which I checked.

This is s high quality product and installation is straightforward.  The 11.5” arm is practical and the 3.5 X 5” mirror face is the biggest I have ever seen.

In my bicycle’s case, I had to bend the arm somewhat to get a better view around my left arm.

??????????????????????<a

Protecting the threads with 2.5” of snugly fitting of 9/16” o.d. Tygon hose, I clamped the threads in a BIG vise and bent the arm with a BIG wrench cushioned by a double fold of heavy cardboard.  This is a trail-and-error project, and I may have to do another bending session.

New Commuter Helmet From Bell

I was going over my rss feed that keeps me up on cycling news when I came across an interesting item from bell. The Bell Muni and lady’s Arella are two helmets new to bell’s lineup focusing on commuting. They have a few nice features that do not come standard to most helmets.

First of all they have mounts where you can put bike lights on the front, rear, and rear straps of the helmet. I have been searching for a while as to how I can get ligths on my helmet and so far I have not come up with any good options. This is the first helmet where I see that they took that into account when designing the life saving device.

Second there is a nice strap system that I know I would want for my next helmet. Have you ever had a day where it is raining or cold so you throw on a hat and have to adjust your helmet accordingly? Now with their “one step fit system” it is a lot easier since the back strap is made of velcro and the neck strap gives you more room either way to adjust the helmet for hat or non hat heads.

Here are some videos that will give you a nice look of the products:

Self-Sealing Tube For Quick Work Of Flats

So here’s an interesting piece of bike tech. Michelin cam out with a self sealing tube. I am told that this is nothing new in the bike world. What is new is that instead of pressure going outward instead it is pushing inward causing the hole to seal up quicker since the rubber pinches in on itself. Is this the next evolutionary leap in bike tube technology? What do you think?

Work Trailers

So in the theme of bike trailers I give you this article with a story of s guy who borrowed a trailer from his workplace to haul cat food. Sure that does not sound that interesting, but what if all workplaces had bike trailers that they could loan out to people. Oh what a wonderful world that would be. Anyway here’s the article.

Poll: Would you borrow a bike trailer from your boss?
