Bicycle Air Bags?!

What!? How did I miss this! Apparently people in Sweden, because where else would they do this, are working in an air bag for a bicycle. So apparently when you get into a crash this little device that sits around your neck will inflate to the size and shape of a bike helmet to prevent head injuries. Not only that but there is a little black box inside the device to record your accident. So basically you will have proof of wrong doing if you get into an accident. No longer will cars be able to say to police that it was not there fault. We will be vindicated!

Holiday Lights in Washington Park

Okay so this one is a long time coming, but here it is.

Rejoice rejoice! Christmas time is here and you know what that means. Christmas Lights! For all you illumination enthusiasts out there you can pay the fifteen dollars per car, or take a bike, don’t quote me on that, and see some dazzling lights in Christmas theme. The great thing is that all the money goes to benefit the juvenile crime prevention programs of the Albany Police Athletic League (PAL). So get out there and have a good time.

For more information you can go to their website.

A week without a bike

Pennsylvania, a land of deer and beer. You may have guessed by now that I am not at home in Albany. As I sit here, belly full of good food, enjoying conversation with family all I can think is that I haven’t been able to ride my bike in a week. All the same, I am looking forward to tomorrow and the events that will follow. I hope you and yours are safe and happy tonight.

Love Thine Bike

Treat your bike as you would yourself and you will never go wrong.

I had a tough time figuring out what to write today partially because I am a little rushed for time in between packing for the 6 hour car ride I have ahead of me and still wrapping presents, but in between these hectic moments as I am eating my breakfast I feel a little calmer and I can, hopefully, impart some wisdom before I go back to my busy life.

What am I trying to say? If you bike needs oil lube it? If your breaks need adjusting do so? No. I am talking about love. Not the kind of love between a man and a women, because I don’t think that is legal in NY State yet, but the love we impart to objects that have been there for us through thick and thin. Sure the chain may fall off once and a while, but that can always be “repaired.”

People call me crazy for riding in the winter. Visibility is lowered as well as the temperature. Motorists forget how to drive. I am not worried though because I know that my bike, my friend, will always be there for me as long as I need him.

In closing, ride your bike. Don’t do it for exercise. Don’t do it to commute. Do it for the joy, the bond you share as bike and rider. A bond which cannot be broken. No matter how many horns sound.
