I know we have had a lot of articles on Velomobiles recently, but this guy is just too interesting. He started on a road bike and gradually moved to a Velomobile. Now his commute to work is about 18 miles and he says that he can go 155 miles in a day. That would be awesome. Granted his environment supports this mode of transportation because it is not to hilly so it would not be a great idea for Albany, but he and 49 other Velomobile rider are doing a tour across America this summer so we’ll see how that goes.

I was doing a little research today on recumbent bikes for various reasons and I came across an article on Velomobiles that I thought you’d all like. Give it a read and tell me what your thoughts are of recumbent bikes. I am very interested to hear what you guys think.
In other news the Albany Bicycle Coalition and the Albany Bike Rescue has some big stuff going on. I am not going to ruin the surprise right now, but be in store for somethings that will knock your socks off in the next few weeks.

At 8:00 AM this morning the winter weather emergency officially ended in Albany which means that all normal parking rules apply again. According to the Times Union, “The first night of the snow emergency netted over 150 towed cars.” At 185 Dollars a car plus any unpaid parking tickets that adds up to a pretty penny for the city. I wonder what they are going to do with the money? Do they budget for towing people or is this extra money that could go twords a public works program? *Cough* Madison Ave. *Cough*

Do we like helmets here at the Coalition? Yes. Do we all have stories of falling in which we were glad we were wearing our helmets? Yes. Now let me present the topic from a different point of view.
Have you ever considered the societal, economic, and political factors that go in to wearing a helmet? What is the impact on how people view cycling due to the pervasive push to wear helmets? All I can say is keep an open mind and disregard the fact that this sounds like conspiracy theory bologna. Besides it’s a Ted Talk so at the very least it will be entertaining.
