I wrote an article a while ago detailing your transportation options for getting in, out, and around Albany. Recently I have come to understand, with great dismay, that the AABus is our, as cyclists, best option. My experience with the MegaBus this weekend has soured me greatly because not only did I almost not get on the bus because of my bike, but the fact that they only run four buses a day and their pick-up stop in NYC is not as advertised makes me think twice about traveling with them again.
On the lighter side of things, I found a great website to branch this idea of bike friendly travel out to another close city. The website Biking Rules has a lot of great information about biking rules and other commuting related topics. One thing they have on their site is a complete list of the different transportation options around the city and the bike rules associated with them.
So how was my weekend? Good. Have I come back a little wiser about cycling? You betcha.

In a recent Times Union: Bike Blog post Jay Holick asks people to gibe their opinions of how bike friendly the Capital District. This is a great opportunity to be heard and voice your opinion. You might see some familiar names up there.
Is the Capital Region getting more bike friendly?

As you could probably guess from the previous post, I am in DC this weekend, and before you ask I did bring my bike. Did I get to ride around? No, but I did some extensive walking and saw some of the great bike infrastructure that DC has to offer.
I did not see any sharrows, but the separated lanes and the signs that said that bikes were allowed on the road defiantly made up for it. Also I got the sense from the bikers riding through the crowds at the rally that bikers here are comfortable riding with the pedestrians.
The one good thing that Albany has in common with DC is that both cities are very small and easily bikeable. In fact there are bikes that you can rent by the hour and tour around the city.
After being here for a day and touring the capital and the monuments I am defiantly coming back for more. The paths around the monuments and the river trail all look like they will be amazing to bike down. DC is now on my list of places that I want to bike around once I my life.
