In one of the simplest uses of old infrastructure to date Marin County, California opened a multi-use tunnel that was repurposed out of an old train tunnel. This 1.6 mile tunnel is a great example of the innovation and idealism we need here in Albany. Check out the video here.
Here at ABC we we would be remiss if we did not share with you news from outside the capital district. That is why we are proud to congratulate PeopleForBikes.org on reaching their goal of one-hundred fifty thousand signatures on their pledge to make bicycling fun, safe, and viable in America. What can you do to help? PeopleForBikes.org is here to provide some direction:
3. Be ready to write a short email to your U.S. Representative that supports bicycling, and expresses your interest in seeing better bicycling conditions. We’ll tell you when you need to send it and don’t worry; we’ll help you compose a simple, effective message.
There is also a short video that explains their whole process by the director of PeopleForBikes.org Tim Blumenthal.
Here at ABC.com you will not only find news about Albany and the Capital District, but you will see news from other cities that have done interesting bicycle projects to improve their area so that we can learn from their example. The city we are looking at today is Portland, Oregon. In this short video from www.streetfilms.org you will see how the people converted their bike boulevards to greenways and lots more.
Here is an interesting video from Oikofugic Productions that talks about the problems with bike lanes in NYC. I must have been lucky because when I was down there last weekend with my folding bike I did not see any of this. Honestly I’d rather have these problems then no bike lanes.
I just wanted to bring this video to everyone’s attention. It is a heartwarming video of a poem where humanity is better off if there was just one more cyclists on the road. I would like to add one.
