Two Part Tuesday

I am making this post a two parter because somethings just can’t wait for tomorrow.

The TU Bike Blog recently came out with an interesting post highlighting all of NYS’s bicycle laws for all to see. The laws cover everything from attaching yourself to cars ,don’t, to honking at bicyclists, and in case you hate it as much as me here is the actual law on the subject:

DUE CARE

  • Section 1146. Drivers to exercise due care. Notwithstanding the provisions of any other law to the contrary, every driver of a vehicle shall exercise due care to avoid colliding with any bicyclist, pedestrian or domestic animal upon any roadway and shall give warning by sounding the horn when necessary.”

When necessary. HA! That’s a joke.

On the lighter less angrier side of things one celebrity has beaten a ticket for riding on the sidewalk in NYC. Who you ask? Why none other they Robin Williams who is currently staring in a show on Broadway. On the view he explains his endeavor. “I wasn’t dressed, like, in bike clothing,” Williams explained. “I had a single-speed track bike, and I had on a bal aclava, which basically makes me look like a terrorist or a crack dealer. No one was on the sidewalk, and all of a sudden woop-woop!” He did eventually get off the ticket which just goes to show that the whole thing is ridiculous anyway.

Wheels For Wellbeing

Wheels for Wellbeing is a program in the UK that focuses on giving physically disabled people a new lease on life. As the video will show for this group of people a bicycle brings about independence, health, and breaks barriers for them that are put up because of their particular disabilities. So watch the video and enjoy life a little bit more because cycling is being used a positive tool for enriching peoples’ lives.

Happy Easter

All of ABC would like to wish you a happy Easter. If you are Christian go and celebrate the most important holiday on the Christian calendar. If you are not Christian wait till tomorrow and enjoy the discounted chocolate. I did not see Hop, but I wish I had an animal that dispensed candy.

On an semi-unrelated note we are going to have so many flowers in May.

Late Earth Day Treat

I hope everyone had a nice Earth Day/Good Friday.  I know I did with my free trade coffee from former Muddy Cup, I forgot what they changed their name too. It was the first time I had been in there since they changed there name and I have to say I like the changes he made to the place. With it’s expanded coffee area and live music it is now just a nice place to hang out. I have heard complaints before about the cost of the coffee not being conducive to staying there all day and getting work done, and I can’t attest to that either way because as I said before my coffee was free.

So trek recently announced that Trek, the company that introduced carbon fiber to bicycling, will now start recycling the material out of it’s plant in Waterloo, WI. It’s not huge news, but it is nice that bicycle companies are doing what they can to make our world a better place to live.
