Overview – Albany County Bicycle & Pedestrian Crash Viewer

The Albany Bicycle Coalition, in our pursuit of safe streets and roads in Albany County, is introducing a Bicycle and Pedestrian Crash data Viewer for Albany County 2016 – 2023.  This resource is provided courtesy of Naqiy McMullen. Zoom in to view the locations where crashes occurred. Click on crash icons to view additional information. There are different icons for bicycle and pedestrian crashes. At the bottom, one can sort or limit data by year, type, and severity of crashes. There is a city selector in the top right header that filters the data by municipality. Using this, one can see, for example, that the Town of Colonie is a very dangerous community. Central Ave./Route 5 is immediately recognizable by the string of crashes.

The State should have made these data available to all citizens so that the public could intelligently evaluate road projects and how our government should address the dangers of our roads.

Thank you Naqiy for your work and for stepping up for all of us.
